At a glance
Stage 8 runs about 18 km and 5h 10min from Arrifana to Carrapateira, rated Moderate. It follows the wild west coast of the Costa Vicentina natural park, passing the beaches of Vale Figueiras and Monte Clérigo and reaching Carrapateira, a quiet village between two superb beaches, Bordeira and Amado. Expect cliffs, dunes and long open views with very few other walkers.
What to expect on this stage
This is a wild, quiet stage with long open views and few services. The path follows the clifftops with some sandy sections and short climbs, passing remote beaches such as Vale Figueiras and Monte Clérigo. Services are limited, so carry water and lunch. The landscape feels remote, with dunes, scrub and the constant sound of the Atlantic. The finish at Carrapateira is a reward: a small village near the long Bordeira beach and the cliff-framed Amado beach, both popular with surfers.
