2 miles of milestones
PART I:
Halfway point! Harper's Ferry is roughly half the way to Maine (the real halfway point is in southern PA), so it felt fantastic to hike the mile or so into town. I had a fun few days there hanging out, meeting people and watching the Civil War reenactors.
8/6: Harper's Ferry American Youth Hostel
8/7: KOA Kampground
8/8: KOA Kampground
8/9: Paul's house
8/10: took train/bus to New Jersey. Stayed at church hotel near PA/NJ state line and Delaware Water Gap
At this point in the hike I was forced to temporarily skip over Maryland and Pennsylvania. I had started the hike late in the season, and I knew I had to get to Mt. Katahdin in Maine before it closed on October 15 (due to snow). So I headed up to New Jersey and continued north. A couple of months later, after I had hiked north from New Jersey all the way to Maine, I came back and hiked south through Maryland and Pennsylvania.
PART II:
I finish the hike! On November 20, after hiking south through Pennsylvania and MAryland, I arrived back in Harper's Ferry, whooping and hollering as I crossed over the Potomac River bridge. I have known no greater joy than during those moments.
